Manufacturing Execution Systems

Manufacturing Execution Systems (MES) are designed to integrate data from activities and systems used on the plant floor and other production support systems with Enterprise Resource Planning systems.  The benefits of an MES system are, greater visibility into the supply chain, less process variation, less schedule deviation, higher traceability, less waste/rejected material, and higher control of process variation resulting in a higher quality process, higher throughput, and a net reduction to cost of goods manufactured.  These benefits are achieved by configuring the MES to ensure that data is input and checked electronically at the source and made available electronically to the rest of the internal MES modules and ancillary systems in real time…a concept commonly referred to as “Right first time”.

The functionality provided by a typical MES system will consist of modules to support the following manufacturing business processes:

  • Plant Scheduling
  • Process Monitoring
  • Material Tracking
  • Warehouse Management
  • Deviation Management
  • Corrective Action/Preventative Action
  • Electronic Batch Recording
  • Reporting of Key Performance Indicators

In addition to ERP system integration, MES systems typically provide an integration module to facilitate transfer of data from these commonly used production support systems:

  • SCADA systems
  • DCS systems
  • Training Management systems
  • LIMS systems
  • CAPA systems
  • Document Management systems
  • Equipment Management systems

ISOCOMP consultants have the training and expertise to assist clients with the selection and implementation of MES systems that align with their existing business processes and production support systems.
